STARS Partners Move Towards Need-Finding, State-of-the-Art, and Design of the SRL-Enhanced Peer-Review System

At the second STARS partner meeting, the Tartu partner organized an exciting three-day participatory workshop as part of the project’s deliverables. This time, we focused on three main deliverables: a need-finding (led by Niamh McCrea and Daire O’Broin), a state-of-the-art report (led by Djuddah Arthur Joost Leijen, Roger Michael Alan Yallop, and Äli Leijen), and Designs/Prototypes (led by Ken Power, Libor Zachoval, and Daire O’Broin of SETU Computing Carlow).

Location: Room 207, Lossi 3, Tartu Ülikool (University of Tartu), Estonia — May 19–21, 2025

Needfinding on the first day

We identified key stakeholders and tested SRL-enhanced prototypes for learners’ self-review management. The prototype was developed by the SETU Computing Carlow Team using a large language model (LLM).

Partners worked on reusing the AI-enhanced prototype, writing exercises, and submitting them to the AI system. From the system, two types of feedback or review could be received: human and non-human. Based on that feedback, learners could edit and improve their work.

Lessons learned from the activities

The project partners planned to gather more insights from students with the updated versions of the AI-enhanced digital system. The STARS project consortium partners successfully completed the three-day workshop as part of the project meeting deliverables. The project meeting ended with further discussion on organising our next physical meeting and, in parallel, a Hackathon at LUT University in Lappeenranta, Finland, on November 3–5, 2025.
